In recent years the number of vehicles stolen has been falling in line with developments in enhanced vehicle security.
No longer are cars being taken as a means of getting home after a night out but stolen to order by OCG’s and then exported to feed a growing foreign market. The recovery rate is for stolen cars is arround 32%. Too often a vehicle is examined in relation to a crime or collision without the authenticity being established This course, accredited by IMI (Institute of Motor Industries) is aimed at Roads Policing Units, Vehicle Examiners, Stolen Vehicle Units, ANPR Officers and Ports Police. It is designed to give the students the knowledge to identify theft indicators, likely trafficking routes and the expertise to identify a stolen vehicle
The student will have a full understanding of the nature and extent of vehicle theft. They will possess a working knowledge of DVLA registration system, understand/interpret a vehicle chassis number, be able to use PNC-VODS as an investigative tool and understand ‘PNC Corruption’.
They will be able to use/understand open source databases relating to vehicles, understand common ‘ringing’ methods, physical and paper)to recognise fake or altered chassis numbers and plates. The course enables the student to possess a greater health and safety awareness re vehicle examinations and to conduct a preliminary vehicle examination. They will be able to produce a written inspection report and evidential statement.

All equipment will be provided. You will need a warm outdoor jacket.
Your course tutors will help you with your studies during the course. There is a final written examination and a practical assessment.
