Light Road Vehicle Examination and Prohibition Award (IMI) 

Introduction

This Award is available in two formats.

  • For those that have no previous experience of vehicle examination a full as a standalone course with four residential weeks and two distance learning weeks.
  • For those that have sucesfully completed the CertHE module Fundimentals of Motor Vehicle Examination and wish to gain an IMI Award, as a residential two week top-up.       

What you will study

For those undertaking the full programme,
This Award introduces students to road going vehicles and the safety critical systems that affect the dynamics and behaviour of a vehicle, including Braking, Suspension, Steering, Restraint Systems and Wheels & Tyres. On completion of the 6 week course, a successful student will have demonstrated that they have developed the core skills and suitable foundation to their technical understanding to work safely in a workshop environment, complete a vehicle examination, and compile a written vehicle report subject to completion of an inspection.

For those who wish to underake the two week top-up,

  • More in depth understanding of suspension and braking systems
  • CAN and LIN Networks and fault diagnosis
  • Electronic control systems, ABS, EBS etc. and fault diagnosis
  • EDR data retrieval via the OBD and direct from the EDR (please note this is not the Bosch course) 
  • A basic introduction around EV’s (there are some certificated IMI courses that deal with EV’s in more depth)

Assessment

This module is assessed. Your tutor will mark the module and provide you with feedback.
