This module will give you the necessary tools to be able to analyse CCTV footage. You will be taught how to analyse the footage for missing or long frames and how to work out the frame count. Once the frame rate has been established various techniques can be used to calculate the speed of vehicles passing through the field of view.
CCTV types, frame rates, FIT boards, grids, virtual rulers and the use of several software programs to help calculate speed.
A desktop or laptop computer running Windows with a browser and broadband internet access is required for this module. Any modern browser will be suitable for most computer activities. This module cannot be completed on a mobile devices.

You will need access to MS Word and Excel and PDF reader. If you don't already have them they can be downloaded from the DMU library using your DMU email address
The module notes are accessed via the AiTS virtual learning environment. It is delivered by blended learning over 8 weeks with the first section involving reading into the background of CCTV followed by 4 days in the classroom. You will have a tutor who will help you with your studies.
This module is assessed. Your tutor will mark the module and provide you with feedback.
This module is part of De Montfort university's CertHE in forensic road collision investigation.
From time to time we also run a standalone version of this module. Successful candidates gain an AiTS Certificate. Contact AiTS for further details.
The CertHE starts in September of each year. Apply through AiTS. If you wish to take this module without registering with the university you may do so however no university accreditation will be give. To take as a standalone check the calendar for the next presentation and contact AiTS.
